MAY MADNESS 2015: Mapping Festival // Symposium IX // Mutek 16e // La Bacchanale

The month of May was 31 days of workshops, installations, conferences, performances and a large dose of digital debauchery from Montréal to Geneva and back again. Here’s the rundown!

Things kicked off at Mapping Festival 2015 inside the ARK: a 13M mobile dome boasting three 12K projectors which will be touring at several festivals across Europe this summer. The workshop was hosted by Mysquare’s Francois Moncarey (Terrabass), Pedro Zaz and VJ Spetto (Blendydome United VJs), Thomas Köppel and myself. The aim of my workshop was to show participants techniques in creating fulldome content using Blendycam in Cinema4D and the AE template, CamSphere. We finished the week by inviting the Mapping fam to a quality fulldome night inside the ARK.

Next stop was the Mapping Playground: the MAD team revealed the miniMAD and Mad Mapper 2.0, Mike Latona was mapping on masks, CHiKA was creating interactive installations with super mappers and Matt Mets was building a 3D light sculpture using BlinkyTile.. along with a macbook pro dissection by chainsaw, courtesy of Frz.

La Bacchanale was the start of three shows in three days in Montréal, kicking off with a LED and lighting installation at Hangar16 with one of the most important names in Techno at the moment: Recondite. The stage concept was realized by my crew at ORG-ASTHME and later turned into a family affair when friends from Geneva touched down to mash on the buttons. 1000+ strong, La Bacchanale continues to make a statement in Montréal, delivering top quality events for techno lovers. Shouts to Diagraf on the video mapping.

Montréal’s Society for Arts and Technology [SAT] hosted the second edition of IX, an international symposium on immersion and experience. I was invited to VJ inside the Satosphere for the symposium’s closing party, INSTANT SYNTHÉTIQUE. The event was hosted by Eliptik Magazine and Gate and featured a screening of Jeff Mills: Man From Tomorrow with director Jacqueline Caux followed by an evening of techno and immersion with Groj, Tin Man and Chicaiza alongside myself and Diagraf on the visuals.

MUTEK 16e édition
For the 16e edition of Mutek, I worked alongside Mike Latona and friends to construct a LED installation at the Centre PHI; host of the festival’s panel discussions, workshops, and the event
Digital Delicacies.

So thats a wrap. I’ll be spending most of the summer in the studio cooking up new projects for the fall of 2015.

FULLDOME @ Satosphère

For the album launch of Montréal based producer Moses Baxter I was invited to perform inside la Satosphère [SAT], the very first immersive modular theatre dedicated to artistic creation and visualization activities. This event was also the inauguration of several new VJs at the SAT: myself, PUSH1STOP and Fred Trétout. We had received training in immersive systems from VJ Azyl and passed several months preparing content for this one event.

Here are some frames from my dome masters along with a video montage of my performance, courtesy of my homeboy Mike Latona.
